Cyber security tips | Remove your personal information from Google

The three most popular social media sites in the world are Google, Facebook, and Twitter. People, businesses and politicians use these platforms on a daily basis. By changing your profile privacy settings on those sites, you make it difficult for search engines to find your personal information, and hence even more difficult for cybercriminals to find you. The privacy settings on each website can vary. Make sure that these sites’ privacy settings are configured to keep your information private. If you want to conceal your Facebook profile from Google search results, for example, go to Facebook, click the privacy tab, and then select ‘Hide from search.’ This will prohibit Google from indexing your Facebook profile.

Search engines, including Google, use a number of different methods to index websites. One of the primary ways that Google indexes websites is through the use of meta tags. Meta tags are tags that appear inside of web pages. On websites that have been indexed by search engines, meta tags contain a variety of information, including the name of the website, the title of the page on which the tag appears, the description of the page on which the tag appears, the URL of the page on which the tag appears and the keywords that appear in the tag.If you want to make sure that your personal information is not included in your Google search results, you can remove it from the index by visiting your My Account page and clicking on ‘Remove personal information from Google’ under ‘Web and email results’. This will prevent your personal information from showing up when someone does a Google search on your name. You can also remove your personal information from other online profiles, like Microsoft’s Bing web search, Yahoo web search, and DuckDuckGo web search. Search engines crawl the websites of these search engines to gather information.
